Flame Cutting Service
Flame cutting is ideal for metal thicknesses too great for plasma and laser cutting, but relies heavily on the expertise of the operator to minimise mistakes.
With 50 years’ experience our operators have the knowledge and skill to deliver the highest standards and consistency, coupled with the latest technology and flame cutting machinery to ensure high levels of accuracy every time.
Our investment in multiple cutting heads provides a fast turnaround for flame cutting projects, while our stress relieving and Lumsden grinding services help combat heat affected zones, maintain higher flatness tolerances and grind profiles to custom thickness.
Advantages And Capabilities
- Can cut through thicknesses beyond the capability of plasma and laser
- Our machines offer weld preparation, saving time on secondary operations
- Utilising multiple cutting heads provides a quick turnaround on flame cut profiles
- Ability to cut parts up to 22000mm in length
Benefits Of Flame Cutting
Cost Effective
Flame cutting is more economical than other cutting methods, with quick set up times and minimal downtime.
Versatility
Flame cutting can cut through thicknesses beyond the capability of plasma cutting or laser cutting so can be used on a wide range of applications.
Strength
Materials can be quenched and tempered to provide a stronger final product.
Durability
We can provide flame cutting on materials that are abrasion and wear resistant and suitable for onshore and offshore projects.
Speed Of Delivery
Alongside our state-of-the-art flame cut machinery that can dramatically cut lead times, our dedicated fleet of vehicles provide a premium delivery service to customers throughout the UK and Ireland.
Standard lead times for any profiling services are three-five working days. In addition, we have four x 12 tonne flat back wagons. Finally, we work with various parcel / pallet delivery partners that offer a dedicated same day courier service.
How Does Flame Cutting Work?
Flame cutting uses a jet of pure oxygen directed at an area of heated base metal. A fuel gas combusts when combined with the oxygen, converting the metal into iron oxide, which is blown away.
Flame Cutting For Carbon Applications
A cost-effective option for thick materials like carbon with the addition of edge finishing. Ideal for applications requiring structural steel, pressure vessel/boiler grade requirements. Extremely wear resistant with a variety of weathering grades.
Delivering Quality Products With Precision For Decades
"P.P. Group offered a completely different approach to our standard manufacturing methods. Adopting the latest advances in CAD software and profiling technology helped us to reduce costs and dramatically increase profitability. I would highly recommend contacting one of their Sales team to discuss what benefits P.P. Group’s advanced CAD and cutting technologies can bring to your business."
“P.P. Group managed to profile and deliver 75 tonnes of parts within five working days, which enabled us to meet and exceed our project’s deadlines. In addition, we saved significant time on drilling due to 40 mm cut holes, provided by P.P. Group during this task.
This truly flexible and swift approach, enabled us to deliver all the tunnel cutting machines for the construction of railway lines on time.”
“P.P. Group's advanced facilities and machinery enabled us to successfully manufacture a very complex baggage shield that weighed 76 tonnes for Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.”
“P.P. Group was able to supply us with materials, to manufacture six stainless steel filters, for the waste water industry. Each of these filters was 14 m x 4 m x 6.5 m high, consisting of thousands of profiles/parts, which were laser and water jet cut, as well as rolled and pressed; in as little as just four months. Due to the short lead time of such a large order, the project won a recognised global award.”

FAQ
What is your flame cutting capacity?
We have over 45+ years of flame cutting experience, so you can be sure of a reliable, high quality service.
Our four headed ‘Kerf Oxy-Fuel’ flame cutting machines allow us to quickly complete jobs up to a capacity of 22000 mm x 3500 mm x 300 mm. Your material can be custom-finished to your specifications using our Lumsden grinding and heat treatment services.
What is your edge/weld prepping capacity?
The bevel angles can vary from 22.5° to 55°, with a plate thickness of between 6 mm and 50 mm. The maximum bevel depth will vary depending on whether you are using carbon or stainless steel.
What is your Lumsden grinding capacity?
Our 2540 mm Lumsden grinding table can finish profiles ranging from 6 mm to 200 mm in thickness. Three grinders are used to achieve consistency even across larger profiles, with a flatness tolerance of 0.25mm.
We also have the capacity to grind magnetic stainless steel, if needed.
What is your heat treatment capacity?
Our heat treatment offers stress relieving and normalising functions, which help us to prevent instances of metal cracking or splitting.
Our ovens are able to treat materials up to a capacity of 3800 mm x 3500 mm.
What type of stock do you have?
Our stock features a wide range of metals and other materials for plate profiling. We can work with materials including stainless steel, aluminium, titanium, copper, brass, bronze, nickel alloys, duplexes, super duplexes, rubber and plastic.
We also provide materials manufactured to fit the requirements of your project, including carbon steel, abrasion/wear resistant and weathering resistant materials, as well as heat treated, quenched and boiler grade steel.
Please consult our website/brochure for a full stock list, or ask our team if you require further clarification. Keep in mind that we can also cut free issue material where required.
