Why Defence Contractors Choose P.P. Group

Benefits of P.P. Group’s Carbon Steel Cutting Service

P.P. Group serves the UK nuclear sector — one of the most demanding quality environments in engineering. The same traceability, documentation, and quality standards apply to every defence project. With ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and BS EN 1090 certifications, we meet the exacting requirements of defence supply chains.

Full-service

Plasma, flame, waterjet and laser cutting — all under one roof. Armour plate from 6mm to over 300mm, plus rolling, press braking, heat treatment and surface grinding. No outsourcing, no delays.

Expertise

We already serve the UK nuclear industry with the traceability and documentation standards that defence supply chains demand. Full mill test certification and certificates of conformance with every order.

Speed-1

Double-shift production, in-house delivery fleet, and established UK and European supply chain relationships. Most armour plate grades sourced within 48 hours.

Materials

We process recognised armour plate and high-hardness ballistic steel grades including Armox, Mars, MIL-DTL-12560 and DEF STAN 95-24 specifications, in thicknesses from 6mm to over 300mm.

Armour Plate Profiling Services

P.P. Group provides a complete profiling and processing service for armour plate and high-hardness ballistic steels. We work with the full range of defence-grade materials in thicknesses from 6mm to over 300mm.

Our 110,000 sq ft facility in Oldham, Greater Manchester, is equipped with plasma, flame and waterjet cutting systems capable of handling the heaviest armour plate, alongside processing services including plate rolling, press braking, heat treatment and surface grinding — all under one roof.

With established supply chain relationships across the UK and Europe, we can source most armour plate grades within 48 hours, supplied with full mill test certification and certificates of conformance.

How We Cut Armour Plate

Water jet cutting - 2
Laser Cutting

Our primary process for heavy armour plate. Handles the thickest sections — 6mm to 300mm+ — with reliable edge quality. Ideal for hull components, structural plates and heavy sections.

Water Cutting

Cold-cutting process that eliminates heat-affected zones entirely. Critical for applications where maintaining the full ballistic properties of the armour plate is essential. No thermal distortion.

Water Cutting

Waterjet & Flame Cutting

Waterjet cutting delivers faster throughput and tighter tolerances than flame cutting. Clean cuts with reduced heat-affected zones up to 150mm thick on the waterjet and 300mm on the flame.

Heat-1

High-speed precision cutting for thinner armour plate components. Our fibre lasers deliver tight tolerances and clean edges on armour grades up to 30mm.

Defence & Security Applications

Construction

Hull panels, belly plates, side panels and turret components for armoured vehicle programmes.

Oil & Gas

Profiling for military bases, secure storage and blast-resistant structures.

Rail

Armour plate for security vehicles, enclosures and high-security sites.

From Enquiry to Dispatch — Full Traceability

We follow the same rigorous quality processes for armour plate work that have earned us the trust of the nuclear sector. Every component is fully traceable, every process documented. From initial enquiry to final dispatch, our team ensures precision at every stage — because in defence, there's no margin for error.

1

Technical Review

Our engineers review your specifications, recommend the optimal cutting process for your armour plate grade, and advise on material yield.
2

Material Sourcing

We source your armour plate grade — Armox, Mars, MIL-spec or high-hardness ballistic steel — from our network of trusted UK and European suppliers, typically within 48 hours.
3

Precision Profiling

Your components are cut using the process best suited to the material grade and thickness, with controlled parameters to maintain ballistic properties.
4

Processing & Finishing

Rolling, press braking, heat treatment, grinding, edge prepping and laser etching — all completed in-house with full documentation.
5

Inspection & Delivery

Every component inspected against specification. Full mill test certificates and conformance documentation. Delivered on our own fleet.

UK Manufacturing Excellence

"P.P. Group offered a completely different approach to our standard manufacturing methods. Adopting the latest advances in CAD software and profiling technology helped us to reduce costs and dramatically increase profitability. I would highly recommend contacting one of their Sales team to discuss what benefits P.P. Group’s advanced CAD and cutting technologies can bring to your business."

High detail laser cutting in action - 1

“P.P. Group managed to profile and deliver 75 tonnes of parts within five working days, which enabled us to meet and exceed our project’s deadlines. In addition, we saved significant time on drilling due to 40 mm cut holes, provided by P.P. Group during this task.

This truly flexible and swift approach, enabled us to deliver all the tunnel cutting machines for the construction of railway lines on time.”

Large format metal plate rolling - 2

“P.P. Group's advanced facilities and machinery enabled us to successfully manufacture a very complex baggage shield that weighed 76 tonnes for Heathrow Airport Terminal 5.”

“P.P. Group was able to supply us with materials, to manufacture six stainless steel filters, for the waste water industry. Each of these filters was 14 m x 4 m x 6.5 m high, consisting of thousands of profiles/parts, which were laser and water jet cut, as well as rolled and pressed; in as little as just four months. Due to the short lead time of such a large order, the project won a recognised global award.”
